They're out ...

My last post,  'Deefa ... Delphinium !' showed Delphiniums poised on the brink of flowering . Guess what ... the sun has worked its magic and they are now starting to bloom fully.

The darker blue ones seem to be blooming first, and they are the only ones which are fully out.

This paler blue Delphinium won't be long until it is out.

I think this one will be white.

Some of these plants I have grown from seed in previous years and others I have bought from various places, or been given them. They are very reliable and totally hardy but they need to be staked. In my earlier years of gardening, when  gardening  time was snatched between children and work, I never quite got round to the staking thing. Disaster ! They look fine , and you think you have winged it, but all it takes is a bit of wind, or a heavy downpour, and they are ruined. I learned the hard way, but like all gardening mistakes, I only made it once. I made lots of different ones on other occasions, but never that one again !

  1. Can't grow delphiniums where I live due to the summer heat. I am still really bad about staking. I always think the peonies look fine so I don't put the hoops on. Then there is a big rain and they are all on the ground. The hoops need to go on before they even emerge.

    1. I know exactly what you mean about peonies , I always feel so guilty when I don't get round to staking them them, then discover them in a heap on the ground!

  2. Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful! Around here, we get to enjoy delphiniums for only a month or so; it gets too hot too fast. But I love them.

    1. Do they grow well with you HolleyGarden ? I love the blue too, but love all white plants, especially at dusk ! How are your roses ? Bet they are fabulous ! I am egging on my David Austin English roses to flower for the very first time... any day now !

  6. Delphiniums like to be fairly cool, which is why they love our English summers :-) I don't think they could cope with your heat ... but I could !

  7. Delphiniums are together with roses my favourite flowers. Here (The Netherlands) they are also starting to flower. Funny I do the same like you. Buy sometimes a plant, but most of them I have grown from seed.
Coming weeks I shall show them on my blog.
